The U.S. Air Force has reached a deal with Boeing to build the next generation Air Force One aircraft. The current Boeing 747-200 aircraft that fly the president will be replaced with the newer, more advanced Boeing 747-800. This comes with numerous upgrades, such as:
~1000nm more range (now 7,730nm)
A faster cruising speed of 0.855 mach, making it the fastest commercial jet in the world
An increased maximum takeoff weight of 987,000 pounds (a 154,000 pound increase)
16 tons less CO2 emissions per trip
The contract will cost $3.9 billion for the two aircraft, and work on the aircraft is expected to be completed by December 2024. President Trump has also discussed changing the livery of the plane to a red, white, and blue theme.
